there are some mornings when the sky looks like a road

my new room has the smell of star-gazer lillies & coffee, new shoes & rain. tissue dragonflies are stuck to the walls & my books all have shelf-space! the red patterned rug & blue armchair that i got from the marche aux puces at montreuil make the paint-splattered wooden floor more cozy without taking away the feeling of this being an artist's studio. the ceiling slopes over my desk, scattered with polaroids from parties, matches, needle & thread, & my new fountain pen. a cup of morning coffee, black and already cold, gets the advantage of the milky sky stretched like a taught canvas over the pantheon & all the way to monmartre. the doves play games on the chimney pots & i watch over this mallleable maze from my bird's eye view.
