archipelago-go-go

listening to: her disappearing theme
hungry for: mangoes & pink grapefruits

bretagne, 'le nez de la france,' is surrounded by the ocean. there, they speak a dialect so rooted in the land that the frenchmen & the fishermen can not converse. in breton, there is no difference between the words 'blue' & 'green,' because these colours are inextricable from each other in the luster of the water: it is all just turquoise.

today is ballet-flat & blazer weather & my clothes are clean but my hair is dirty. i have been thinking a lot about surrealism, the seine, perfect posture, & part-time jobs in bookshops.

if you do find a bookshop, you should balance tomes on your head for good posture practice (it also works in libraries!)
at the market on saturday, i asked for 'pain au raisin' from the little french bakery. the typically halifax boy replied, "oh, you mean the swirly raisin danish thing?"
i said yes & thought of you.

at la boulange, my favorite breakfast boulangerie around the corner, the woman tends to mishear my request for 'benoitons' as 'pain au raisins.' (did i tell you that already?)
there are mistranslations happening all across the atlantic, regarding those swirly raisin danish things!

until my "beauty & the beast" dream can be fulfilled, or until i hear back from my interview at the abbey bookshop, i will pracice posture at the bibliotheque mouffetard!
